Random Items That Transform a Good Ski Day Into a Great One

We wanted to focus on a few non-essential items that we like on the slopes with us.

HANDWARMERS
Just because your'e playing all day in the snow doesnt mean your hands need to be frigid. Gloves and mittens help, protect but if your hands are perpetually cold this may be a nice fix. Just rememember the difference between playing in the snow as a kid and skiing/snowboarding is that most likely your house isn't on the mountain just right off your run. You'll have loading and unloading to do before you can sit down by a warm fireplace.
Tip: They do make feet warmers too, but if you're planning on skiing all day I would skip them. They'll definitely leave a mark with how tight ski boots are.

Boots with Button
You may be thinking that we messed up by putting boots on here because they are essential, but these boots are special because they have a sleek yet helpful add on. The button makes it so that you don't have to spend extra time tightening your boots, which automatically gives you more time on the mountain. It may seem like a small detail, but these boots are worth considering adding to your collection.
Tip: Find these boots for up to 70% off during Black Friday sales, and Cyber Monday. We like Al's sporting goods for some of the biggest discounts.

A Pre-Ski Wax
Although waxing your ski or board before going is not considered essential, there are serious benefits to spending a little time and money to taking care of your gear. Unless you're a fan of friction, waxing your ski or board beforehand will help you glide smoothly across the snow minimizing the chance that snow sticks to you. The wax repells water which protects your base from drying out and helps your favorite pair of skis or snowboard last longer.
Tip: Typically a snowboard wax will cost around $30-40. Its recommended to wax before, during, and after the season.

Sandals/Slides
While this one may seem redundant, sandals are a good thing to consider taking with you to make it a seamless transition from shoe to boots. Slides are our favorite pick because you can easily wear them with your socks. Minimizing prep time means more time to shred. If you want to make the most of the day, some slides, sandals or even crocs can be a great option.
Tip: Waterproof is important! None of those leather, swede, or fluffy slides out here.

Travel Mug
Although you'll have to wait to sit down by the fire, you may not have to wait to have a nice hot drink. Hot chocolate, tea, (and for our caffeine fiends) coffee all work super well in a mug like this. It'll save you the trip inside the lodge and waiting in line to get yourself a hot beverage.
Tip: If you don't like this style there are more sturdy, sealable travel mugs. Find what's right for you.

Some sort of Snack
It's not the end of the world if you don't bring a snack, but if you really want to stay out on the slopes and not in lines waiting for food in the lodge, a snack is always a good choice. You may not eat it, but if you find yourself hungry theres some easy calories right there. That way you can keep carving all day.
Tip: Think about what snacks you like, then consider how they'll be frozen or at least very wind chilled.

Some sort of bag
While not everyone is the backpack type, it's smart to carry some sort of bag. Backpacks are probably the most ideal, but fanny packs could work if your load is light. Not everyone has to be carrying a backpack, but just like hiking it's nice if at least someone has somewhere to store the stuff.
Tip: Check out our next blog post for tips on how to choose a bag, and our favorite backpacks for the ski season.

Those are our favorite non-essential items to keep us going all day long. The season is short, might as well make the most of every day we get out carving our own paths. Check out our Instagram, TikTok and Pinterest page for more fun winter sports content.
